Description
Real Time set up Action media in response to the pressing needs for young people to gain work experience.
Action Media is a young person led media production company aiming to provide meaningful work placements in the creative industries. Young people, particularly NEETs (not in employment, training or education), often struggle to find suitable work experience to help them prepare for future employment. The project uses the production company format to support young people to:
Build confidence and teamwork
Develop their communication skills
Prepare for the workplace
Inspire other young people and the wider community
Young people take part in a wide range of practical work experience activities including the setting up and running of the Action Media company, social media, marketing and documentary video production. They also have the opportunity of gaining arts award qualifications. Action Media is run in partnership with Starting Point, the Mustard Tree foundation’s young persons mentoring project. The young people recently completed the Untold Stories documentary:
During lockdown, Real Time continued to work with the young people, this included the production of online training materials for them to work on, plus continued face to face meetings outside using Covid secure engagement protocols.
